Protect Your Credit Score while Unemployed

Protect Good Credit

Many people avoid thinking about such unpleasant thing as unemployment. But in reality it can happen to anyone! A great number of unemployed find themselves being financially unprotected and damage their credit scores, when they get fired from their old workplaces. So what is the way out from this difficult financial and psychological situation? Or, is there a way to protect yourself from being in horrible financial condition after you have lost your job? What can you do in order not to leave major blemishes on your credit report after you are fired from your job?

It is extremely important to think about unemployment in advance and create some emergency funds that will cover your expenses for about 6 months. You can have some cash or money on your bank account, it really doesn't matter, but this sum has to be big enough to cover all your house, car and student loans. You will definitely get a peace of mind, because your bills will be paid and your good credit will be protected.

When you apply for a credit card, you should pay huge attention on credit card insurance, because it will cover your minimum payments for up to 6 months of your temporary unemployment. There will be no negative markings on your credit report and your credit score will not be damaged. Of course no annual fee, low rates and high credit limit are pretty sweet features of credit cards, but insurance is always a sign of future financial stability.

If your emergency funds are not big enough or you don't have any at all, you should give your credit issuer a call and explain your current difficult situation. Both you and your credit card company will be satisfied. Visa, MasterCard or American Express will definitely understand your financial difficulties and will be more willing to cooperate with you, because they'll see that you are doing everything that is in your power to get things back together.

John D. Eakle, 42 years old, worked as an engineer on a plant for 18 years. Due to some financial problems at his place of work, 37 employees, including John were fired. It is not easy to find a new place of work, when you are over forty, that's why John was unemployed for over 4 months! It was a difficult time for him, because he had bills to pay and a family to support! That's why he advises everyone to have some money saved for the rainy day!

If you want to avoid bad credit during the time of unemployment, you should create a plan and think about this unpleasant situation in advance! We never know what tomorrow will bring us, but it is always good to think about the best, but be prepared for the worst!
