The holiday season is over, the New Year has come. But unfortunately, some credit card users got something they didn't expect to have! I am not talking about unexpected presents; I am talking about credit card debt! During the last 3 months Americans paid for many goods and purchases with their credit cards and spent about $150 billion, it is $15 billion more than last year! With such huge spendings some of them ended up with a credit card debt and even spoiled their credit score! But you have to know that 2008 can be debt free for you!
Don't wait till your credit score will be damaged, start taking actions today!
1. Plan your budget. Many consumers fall into financial black hole simply because they don't plan their spendings! In order to avoid credit card debt you should realize your financial condition! Create a list of your monthly spendings. If you think that you spend too much, try to reduce your spendings and buy things that you really need!
2. Quit using those plastics! Even if you have point rewards credit cards and want to get something for free, don't spend too much! Credit card is a financial tool that is supposed to help you, not a free license to spend! If you abuse it, you will end up having horrible financial problems! If you have a big credit card debt on your card, simply do not use it for some period of time!
3. Pay off the debt on a card with the highest interest rate. You should contact your credit card company (for example, Visa or MasterCard) and find out about the amount of debt you have and the interest rate you are paying. If you have debt on several cards, don't forget to pay it off!
4. Transfer the debt you have. Transfer your debt to the card with lower interest rate. But beware! Some credit card companies charge big fees for balance transfers, so read the fine print of your card or contact your credit card company to find out about this information.
5. Ask for the professional help. If you can't deal with your financial problems yourself, ask for help of professionals. You can turn to the well-known non-profit organization and get a valuable piece of advice!
6. Contact your credit card company in case you can't make a payment. Almost every credit card company will do its best to help you as you are their customer.
7. Make more than a minimum payment. In case you pay only minimum amount, it will cost you a fortune over time! You will spend thousands on interest and that is without mentioning all other fees!
